Steps to Success
Get in touch.
Fill out our contact form to find out how we can help. If we think we’re a good match, we’ll ask you to complete our online paperwork before scheduling an appointment. Even if we’re not a good fit, we can point you in the direction of finding someone who is.
2. Complete the online paperwork.
You’ll get access to the secure, online client portal. Once you complete all the electronic paperwork through the client portal, we’ll schedule your first appointment, called the initial intake session. This includes consent for testing/treatment, background information, and payment information.
3. Attend the initial intake session.
The 60-minute intake meeting includes a review of the paperwork, an explanation of the testing/treatment process and policies, and a discussion to identify needs and goals. It’s also an opportunity for you to share concerns and ask questions. Click here for information about online sessions.
4. Begin testing and/or treatment.
After the initial intake meeting, a plan for testing and/or treatment is developed and implemented based on student needs and goals. This plan is collaborative and flexible. Testing and/or treatment can be discontinued at any time.
Insurance
Student Success Psychological Services accepts Aetna and Optum (UnitedHealthcare) for counseling services only.
We don’t accept any Medicaid, Medicare, state, or community health insurance plans. We also don’t accept secondary insurance plans. Please contact your insurance company in advance for an explanation of your specific plan including costs, benefits, deductibles, coverage, and copays for mental health services (including billing codes 90791 and 90834).
For services using any other insurance plan and for testing services, we’re considered an “out of network” (OON) provider. OON services are often reimbursed partially or fully by your insurance company depending on your mental health benefits and deductible. After you pay for your service(s), we’re happy to provide you with documentation (a receipt called a “superbill”) that you can submit to your insurance for potential repayment. Please contact your insurance company to confirm your OON benefits in advance. If you’re in need of a low fee treatment provider, Open Path Collective is a resource to explore.
No Surprises Act
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance (uninsured individuals) or who are not using insurance (self-pay individuals who do not seek to file a claim with their insurance using a superbill) an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
