Frequently asked questions

  • Who do you help?

    • Students in preschool through college

    • Parents and teachers of students in preschool through high school

Do you offer in-person or online appointments?

    • We offer both in-person and online appointments for treatment to promote access to services.

    • While testing/evaluation intake and feedback appointments are online, direct student testing (e.g., IQ testing, academic achievement testing) requires an in-person appointment.

How do I prepare for the first testing or counseling appointment?

    • Fill out all online paperwork at least 24 hours before the appointment.

    • Gather and bring (or send electronically) all available records (e.g., past evaluation reports, report cards/transcripts).

    • Students are advised to take medication(s) as usual and bring anything else needed (e.g., fidgets, water) to participate.

    Do you accept insurance?

What is the testing/evaluation process like?

    1. Complete the online paperwork (including consent for evaluation and release of information permission) and schedule the initial intake appointment.

    2. Attend the initial intake appointment (1 hour long) online. Parent(s) (if the student is under age 18) attend the first testing appointment without the student unless the parent(s) wants the student included. This appointment includes a discussion of history and concerns, a review of available records, the development of an individualized testing/evaluation plan, and scheduling the testing appointment.

    3. Attend the in-person testing appointment (usually around 2-4 hours long). This appointment includes student interview, questionnaires, observations, and/or standardized tests (e.g., IQ, academic achievement). Additional testing appointments may be scheduled, as needed.

    4. Complete questionnaires about student skills. These are delivered to parents and/or teachers.

    5. The practitioner scores, analyzes, and interprets all information. An evaluation report is written including testing/evaluation results, impressions, and recommendations.

    6. Schedule and attend the online feedback appointment (with or without the student, depending on the student’s age). This includes a discussion of student strengths, challenges, diagnosis (if applicable), and recommendations for support. A copy of the written evaluation report is provided.

Note: Gifted testing/evaluation includes one in-person testing appointment and a brief written summary of the results only.
